报告题目:Western Arctic Ocean sedimentary records: potential for reconstructing paleoclimatic interactions on various time scales
报告人:Prof. Leonid PolyakByrd Polar and Climate Research Center, Ohio State University, USA
报告人简介:
Dr. Polyak has 40+ years of experience working in the Arctic, including participation and organization of multiple research cruises, such as the 2005 Healy-Oden Trans-Arctic Expedition. His research activities maintain active international collaboration with scientists from China, Norway, Germany, Russia, and other countries involved in Arctic studies. Results of Dr. Polyak’s work are reported in ~100 peer-review publications and presented at numerous scientific meetings as well as outreach talks.
报告内容简介:
Paleoceanographic records from the Arctic Ocean are key for reconstructing the history of interactions with the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and atmospheric teleconnections, which play a critical role in the rapidly accelerating climate change the Arctic is currently experiencing. Sediment cores from the Arctic margins, adjacent ridges, and deep-water basins offerpotential insights into this history on various time scales, from the stratigraphically compressed but long-term (late Cenozoic) to high resolution records representing recent depositional environments. The talk will give an overview of these data and their paleoclimatic context. The focus will be on the western Arctic Ocean, where oceanic and atmospheric impacts of the North Pacific result in accelerated sea-ice retreat and related changes in climatic conditions.
