Affiliated with research platforms such as the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), the National Long-term Seafloor Scientific Observation System, and the Deep Sea Intelligent Unmanned Systems, the Deep Sea Research Center of Tongji University integrates ocean-related strength from School of Ocean and Earth Science, College of Electronic and Information Engineering, College of Civil Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, and College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics of Tongji University. With the cooperative and innovative “Marine Science and Technology Special Zone” mechanism as the guarantee, it is designed as an important part of the Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center.
Featured with “deep drilling, deep observatory, and deep dive” (Three Deeps) technology and the marine “intelligence chain”, and guided by the major needs of the national marine strategy, the Center organizes interdisciplinary collaborative research. It strives to make breakthroughs in the scientific frontiers of ocean processes, deep seabed, climate evolution, and deep-sea resources, improve the level of our country’s deep-sea high-tech and intelligent equipment, and become an internationally influential center for marine education, personnel training, scientific & technological innovation and cooperation. The Center is dedicated to our country’s deep-sea resource exploration and development, marine environmental protection and disaster prevention and mitigation services, promote the independent innovation capabilities of marine high-tech industries, and increase its competitiveness in deep-sea science and technology.
Our current fields of research interest are, but not limited to marine geology, geophysics, marine chemistry, physical oceanography, marine biology, and marine technology. Outstanding talents in the fields of ocean drilling, seabed observation, deep-sea intelligent unmanned systems, deep-sea oil and gas resources are warmly welcomed to apply for the positions of the Center.
The center has established a comprehensive training and incentive system from outstanding young scholars, PIs to leading talents, providing strong support and good opportunities for scholars at all stages of development. Multiple positions at different tiers are vacant now:
1. Distinguished Professor/Tenured Professor/ Tenured Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor
Distinguished Professor applicants are expected to have distinguished academic credentials and international recognition for his/her achievements in research; Be capable of leading scientists to establish a research team; Be no older than 50 years old. (The age restriction can be exempt for outstanding talent).
Tenured Professor applicants are expected to hold positions as professors or researchers in universities or disciplines, or high-level talents with equivalent positions or levels in research institutions.
Tenured Associate Professor applicants are expected to have distinguished academic credentials or have the potential to become PIs in the research field.
Assistant Professor applicants are expected to be under 35 years old and have achieved outstanding research results.
2. Full-time research team: Research Fellows / Associate Research Fellows / Assistant Research Fellows
Research Fellow applicants are expected to have worked as an associate researcher or above in universities or research institutes and be no older than 40 years old; Applicants shall have experiences in presiding over national research programs and have published at least 5 papers as the first authors on SCI-covered journals, or 1 high-level academic paper recognized by peer experts as having a major breakthrough significance in last five years.
Associate Research Fellow applicants are expected to have worked as a lecturer or assistant professor or above, or postdoctoral graduates in universities or research institutes and be no older than 35 years old; Applicants shall have experiences in presiding over national research programs and have published at least 3 papers as the first author on SCI-covered journals, or 1 high-level academic paper recognized by peer experts as having a major breakthrough significance in last three years.
Assistant Research Fellow applicants shall be competitive postdoctoral or doctoral graduates from universities or research institutes and be no older than 33 years old; Applicants shall have experiences in undertaking national research programs and have published at least 2 papers as the first author on SCI-covered journals in last three years.
3. Postdoctoral fellow
Postdoctoral fellow applicants are expected to be no older than 35 years old; have a doctoral degree in universities in last three years; Applicants shall have published at least 1 paper as the first authors on SCI-covered journals in the research field. Affiliated with the post-doctoral research platform of Tongji University, you can apply for the National “Postdoctoral Innovative Talents Support Plan”, “International Postdoctoral Exchange Fellowship Program(Talent-Introduction Program)”, and “Shanghai Super Postdoctoral Incentive Plan”, etc.
1. Competitive compensations: annual salary RMB 300,000 to RMB 900,000 for professorship position, and annual salary RMB 240,000 for postdoctoral fellow (Up to RMB 450,000 for postdoctoral fellow when you get postdoctoral science fund during the Postdoctoral time). According to the direction and work needs of the subject, we will provide adequate research start-up funds (RMB 300,000-RMB 5,000,000), and equip you with research assistants.
