Tongji begins construction of scientific cabled backbone system of the East China Sea Seabed Observation Subnet

        On October 17, Tongji University commenced construction on its scientific cabled backbone system of the East China Sea Seabed Observation Subnet, which is a key component of the National Undersea Scientific Observation Network, a major seabed based national science and technology infrastructure led by Tongji University for China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, marking a significant step forward towards building the subnet.



        The subnet of East China Sea seabed observation has two landing sites, one in Lingang, Shanghai, and the other in Zhoushan, Zhejiang. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Zhoushan landing site, attended by notable guests, including Jian Zhimin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Science and dean of School of Ocean and Earth Science at Tongji University, Shi Zhenming, vice president of Tongji University, Li Ming, executive vice mayor of Putuo District, Zhoushan, as well as Jiang Wei, general manager of China Submarine Cable Construction Co., Ltd., and others from participating institutions. The representatives pushed the lever to officially kick off the construction.
