Call for Registration & Abstract: The First International Electronic Ocean Drilling Program (E-ODP) Workshop

Time: 2026-06-04Views: 10

We are pleased to announce that registration and abstract submission are now fully open for the first international E-ODP workshop, scheduled for September 9–11, 2026, at Tongji University in Shanghai, China.

The international ocean drilling programs have achieved tremendous scientific accomplishments over nearly six decades of implementation, while also accumulating a rich data legacy, which is expected to enable a new round of Earth system science innovation research under the rapidly advancing fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).As such, this workshop aims to convene experts in ocean drilling and data science to share recent scientific discoveries, assess existing multi-disciplinary databases, and establish a strategic roadmap for AI-supported ocean drilling research.

Organization & Leadership

Partnered by: Deep Ocean Drilling Program (DODP), European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD), Australia-New Zealand IODP Consortium (ANZIC), National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT-Atlântico), Brazil, and International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP).

Organized by: DODP Science Center & State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology at Tongji University.

Chairs of International Scientific Committee: Prof. Gilbert Camoin (CEREGE, France), Prof. Chengshan Wang (China University of Geosciences, Beijing), and Prof. Zhimin Jian (Tongji University).

Sessions

Session 1: Ocean Drilling Research Discoveries

This session highlights breakthroughs derived from analyses of drilled cores or observed data. Studies using regional or global-scale data synthesis are particularly encouraged.

 Session 2:Ocean Drilling Databases

This session invites presentations on ocean drilling databases and data-processing tools. Discussions will address the integration of fragmented records across disparate sources.

Session 3:AI-supported Research and Future Roadmap

This session explores big data and AI studies. The vision is to define a technical framework and a strategic roadmap for AI-supported discovery in ocean drilling.

Important Deadlines

June30: Deadline for abstract submission, registration, and travel grant application

July 10: Notification of travel grant results

July 30: Release of the scientific program

 September 9–11: Workshop dates

Registration & Grant

Registration Fee: Waived (free to register)

Travel Support: Limited travel grants are available for eligible participants including early career researchers (ECRs).
