The State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology (MGLab) at Tongji University has launched its “Visiting Fellowship Program”for visiting scholars from home and abroad to conduct collaborative researches with its members by using laboratory facilities. The program offers visiting scholars financial support for 1 to 3 month per year stays at Shanghai. For short visits, the MGLab will provide financial support through its “Ocean Fest” program.
1. Supported research fields
The fellowship supports researches focusing on fundamental deep sea studies that aim at understanding Earth System Science. Research objectives shall be consistent with/conformable to main research areas of MGLab, including Paleoceanography and Paleoenvironment, Continental Margin Evolution and Marine Sedimentation, IODP, Deep Sea Biogeochemistry, Seafloor Process and Observation, Deep Sea Oil and Gas Exploration Technology, and cross disciplinary studies are also encouraged.
2. Types and supports
a. Distinguished Visiting Fellowship
Qualification: senior scientist who holds important position at renowned academic institution or influential international journal, or holds fellowship at international academic organization, or scholar with similar professional expertise
Support: a monthly allowance of 30,000 Yuan for one to three months in a one-year period, one round-trip international travel expenses (economy class), and accommodation. Laboratories, office facilities, and other communal research facilities will be provided.
b. Senior Visiting Fellowship
Qualification: outstanding scholar from home and abroad (domestic scholar holds a record of scholarship at associate professor level or above, overseas scholar holds a record of scholarship at assistant professor level or above)
Support: a monthly allowance of 20,000 Yuan for one to three months in a one-year period, one round-trip international travel expenses (economy class), and accommodation. Laboratories, office facilities, and other communal research facilities will be provided.
3. Application procedures
a. An electronic version of application form as well as a signed hard copy shall be handed to the laboratory, according to this Visiting Fellowship Program (Open Fund Program) Guideline for Applicants, which can be downloaded at the Laboratory’s website.
b. Applications are accepted all year round, which will be evaluated by the Laboratory Evaluation Committee. The approval will be announced within one month.
c. Applicant shall provide a confirmation letter within one month after the application is approved, stating that the visiting program will be implemented as scheduled.
d. A report of conclusions shall be submitted to the Laboratory when the visit is finished.
